Remembering Patrick Walker

With sadness and a fond farewell, we acknowledge and honour the passing of Patrick Walker. Patrick was a counsellor, lawyer, poet, storyteller, and wise friend, who joined the Lawyers Assistance Program as a Lawyer Counsellor in 2023. Patrick had an impressive 26-year career, both in the private sector and the Federal Department of Justice as well as teaching classes at UBC. After rigorous schooling, he obtained his Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology and came to work with us shortly after. Patrick was also very active in his communities, worked on fundraisers, served on boards, attended community events, rode his bicycle, hung out with his dogs and appreciated the arts and music, along with literature and poetry. In addition to his Recovery/Sobriety, two of Patrick’s proudest accomplishments include being a member of the Board of Directors of AIDS Vancouver, as well as a founding member of the CBA's LGBTQ+ Practice British Columbia Section.

We knew him as a wise, intelligent, thoughtful, funny, creative poet. We knew him as a committed colleague and friend dedicated to helping others and holding space for people’s pain, challenges and successes. We knew him as someone who used his own challenges and triumphs to help guide and encourage the work others were doing to more effectively live their lives, grow in their practice and find their recovery. He will be greatly missed.
